Around half of all plastic packaging being produced is destined to be single use and 40% of that is packaging. Globally we buy one million plastic bottles a minute. In 2018 of the three-hundred million tones of plastic waste we created. Approximately 8 million of this ended up in our oceans. There is no excuse not to be aware of the misguided use of plastic. Plastic is literally filling up and destroying our planet. But did you know that it’s easier than you think to make a difference and reduce your plastic consumption?
Plastic in the Hospitality Industry
The hospitality industry is a big contributor. Try to imagine a trip to your favorite eatery and see how much plastic is lurking around. From take away cups to cling film and piles of unnecessary food packaging. Why wrap a banana in plastic? We have a combined 35 years experience in the hospitality industry, therefore, have seen first hand the amount of plastic waste created. It is unnecessary, and we don’t think it has to carry on. That’s why we created The Plastic Free Catering Company. We want to do our bit whilst working in a profession we love – catering with a conscience.
At Plastic Free Catering we have decided to ditch plastic completely. If we can’t source something without it being sold in plastic then we won’t buy it – simple. It has been a challenge designing our menu’s but we’ve risen to the task. We are proof that delicious, homemade and healthy catering without the use of any plastic is possible. In saying no to plastic it also means that we can be totally zero waste. Everything we use can be recycled and we won’t have to send anything to landfill. By leading by example we can start to make a dent in the amount of plastic waste created in catering. Plus, wouldn’t it be great to order delicious homemade food and know that you’re doing your part for the environment?
